American Airlines – New flights to La Paz and Loreto

American Airlines – New flights to La Paz and Loreto

LA PAZ, BCS, MEXICO (September 29, 2020) – La Paz, the capital city of Mexico’s Baja California Sur, and Loreto, a small historic city four hours north, are pleased to announce that American Airlines is introducing new seasonal flights from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in Texas to both destinations beginning December 19. Flights will run Saturdays round trip through April to La Paz and through May to Loreto, and then start again June through September to La Paz.

This marks American’s resumption of direct access from the U.S. to La Paz’s Manuel Márquez de León (LAP) adds to Alaska Airline’s existing connection from Los Angeles to Loreto International Airport (LTO.)  Both flights will run on Bombardier CRJ-700’s. American Airlines already flies to Cabo San Lucas, at the southernmost tip of the Baja Peninsula, but these two new flights will provide access to the smaller, more remote eco-beach destinations along the Gulf of California Coast.

“We are thrilled at the news that American Airlines is introducing this flight to La Paz,” said Fatima Aviles, General Director of the La Paz Tourism Board. “It not only demonstrates their faith in La Paz as a strong destination but signals a growing awareness of, and attraction to, La Paz among U.S. travelers. We look forward to welcoming American Airlines’ passengers this upcoming winter season.”

“Loreto is proud to be added to American Airlines’ flight roster this December,” said “Jesus Ordoñez, General Director of Baja California Sur Tourism. “Tourism to our small and charming city has grown in recent years as U.S travelers increasingly seek authentic adventure experiences and sustainable destinations. We are thrilled to welcome the American Airlines traveler.”

Both Loreto and La Paz are small, colonial cities boasting white sand beaches and the tranquil, marine-rich waters of the Gulf of California – famously referred to as “the world’s aquarium” by Jacques Cousteau –  are havens for eco-travelers in search of pristine nature as well as modern amenities and services. La Paz, as a slightly larger city, offers an array of gastronomic attractions ranging from rustic to fashionable and new hotel developments from Mexican luxury brands Habita and Chablé are slated for 2021. Loreto and the surrounding areas are renowned for its historic missions and ancient cave paintings. Both cities feature breathtaking beaches, annual whale migrations and world-class sport fishing while also being surrounded by striking landscapes where the desert meets the sea.

The state of Baja California Sur, including both Loreto and La Paz, is a proud recipient of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) global safety stamp of approval in recognition of its safe travel protocols: “Safe Travels”. The stamp allows international travelers to understand which destinations around the world have adopted global standardized health and hygiene protocols.  Social distancing, masks and strict, heightened safety and hygiene protocols remain in place.
