Ocean Course at Cabo del Sol to Reopen

Ocean Course at Cabo del Sol to Reopen

The Ocean Course at Cabo del Sol is reopening in November after it closed last month for renovations.

Cabo del Sol has over 1,000 acres of land and beachfront available for development. It is located at the heart of the “Tourist Corridor” that connects the cities of San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas.

Jack Nicklaus is overseeing the project. During a recent site visit, Nicklaus concluded that the course routing required adjustment to maximize the site’s real estate potential and create a financially viable project.

The new Park Hyatt Los Cabos at the east end of the layout will be situated above the seaside sixth hole. The 162-room hotel will have 35 branded private residences. It is slated for completion in 2021.

The resort’s beach club will be constructed on the current seventh hole. A slightly longer replacement hole will feature a raised green encompassed by deep bunkers. Golfers can hit the ball at different angles from alternate sets of trees.

A new par-4 ninth hole is being built in a corridor adjacent to the existing ninth hole to accommodate a new entryway to Cabo del Sol. The new hole is similar to the original and will offer real estate views across the fairway to the sea.

A new luxury residential community called the Cove Club is under development at the west end of the Ocean Course. A new beach club is located at the site of the former par-3 17th hole. In its place, Nicklaus has built a new par 3 that drops from a set of elevated tees to a well-protected green surrounded by the sea. The club and community, like the Ocean Course, are slated to launch in November.

The current 16th hole, a par 4 that drops 100 feet down the side of a mountain, will be remade as the 18th hole. The infinity-edge green will hug a cliff.

Six oceanfront estates attached to the Cove Club and a new branded five-star resort development are planned for the former par-4 18th hole on the Ocean Course, which was situated near the shoreline from tee to green.

The Ocean Course will close again at a future date for additional changes. Upon completion, the Ocean Course will function as a private club, with exclusive access available to guests of the new on-site hotels. The Desert Course, which will also undergo future design changes, will remain a public-access resort venue.
